89Jul14 12:46 am from The Guild Master @The Mall [455-8615]
Dark God: Toil with the guild and pay the price. Where can one seek
lordship? And who may it be granted by?
==> Guild Master
89Jul14 2:20 am from Mandorallen @The Mall [455-8615]
That would seem to be the area that a King would control.
What do you think Tobor, Fire Elf ?? A good assumption ??
89Jul14 from Duke Samwise @The Mall [455-8615]
Do you clain to be a Lord Guild Master? I think Tobor would like to hear that.
You my friend are a complete scam, for I killed The Dark God. Long time ago he
insulted me and I've been waiting to find out where he was. Running to
Mandorallen isn't always going to save your life. If you are a scum loyal to
Mandorallen, you are still a scum. The Assassins Guild is a joke.
89Jul14 from Duke Samwise @The Mall [455-8615]
Tanis Half-Elven: I have just proved that not having a weapon can not save
your life. I showed it on you. You are dead.
89Jul14 12:08 pm from Tobor @The Mall [455-8615]
I will take it upon myself to kill anybody found without a weapon in the world
regardless of loyalty. So if you attack somebody that doesn't have a weapon
let me know of the position and I will kill them off.
Scout Parsons: Get a weapon or your future will be dark.
89Jul14 3:53 pm from Dan Johnson @The Mall [455-8615]
Here here, Duke, I was thinking of some kind of enforcement in that regard.
89Jul14 6:34 pm from scout parsons @The Mall [455-8615]
Anyone wishing to attack me may do so.I'm ready and waiting!!!
-=>Scout<=-
89Jul14 9:29 pm from Eric Hayashi @The Mall [455-8615]
I'll be along soon... Just as soon as I can get Dan online to get me my
initial access to the game. Well, talk to y'all later, peoples!!!
89Jul15 1:17 am from James Hilchie @The Mall [455-8615]
Why would I feel shame for being attacked by a lesser being ??
scout parsons is dead. You were mode 1 fool, you caused your own death by
arrogance.
89Jul15 9:05 am from Shaun Dares @The Mall [455-8615]
Dan:
I just bought armor. (That's nice you say;-) Well, it doesn't say that I carry
a shield, and I bought one the other day!
89Jul15 11:37 am from Tobor @The Mall [455-8615]
I get a kick out of these idiots that buy a weapon and think they can defeat a
Lord. Most of the Lords have over 200 hit points and always carry the best
weapon and armor. You have to be at least 9th level before you're any
competition.
89Jul15 12:11 pm from Tobor @The Mall [455-8615]
There will be a reward for anybody that can give me the whereabouts of:
Surtur
Morning Glory
New User
They must be in the location you tell me though. I don't care where they
were last seen. Leave it in mail so they don't run away.
Remember people NO ONE has the right to walk into Castle STonefiST or Castle
Cain. 265 and 317. Either these three people will pay a 200 sp fine or I will
have them all killed. Intentions don't matter, the law was broken and there is
only one exception, King Mandorallen doesn't need permission to visit.
Also 2 of my henchmen were murdered so you three are held responsible, no if
you wouldn't have broken the law you wouldn't have been accused.
89Jul15 2:30 pm from scout parsons @The Mall [455-8615]
JAMES....I will create a new character. This one is going to be stronger than
the last one.And there will be another time, and another place where i will get
my vengence for what you have done to me!!!
-=>Scout<=-
89Jul15 2:46 pm from Tobor @The Mall [455-8615]
Get a life buddy. James' characters are all over 9th level. I think you better
think twice before threatening him, and besides, I protect him and I, with
Fire Elf, am the strongest character in the world. Wanna fight after you get
your wimp created?
89Jul15 2:56 pm from Jason Ingraham @The Mall [455-8615]
If anybody sees a character called FIR let me know will ya? He seens to have
dissapeared.
89Jul15 4:20 pm from Sentinel @The Mall [455-8615]
Tobor: You forgot one notable exception....
89Jul15 4:48 pm from Mandorallen @The Mall [455-8615]
All members and friends of the dead scout are concidered dead.
It was me who the fool attacked, and he has said that his decendants will wage
war with me. This means that they are criminals, and will not be give proper
graves.
89Jul16 12:18 am from Dan Johnson @The Mall [455-8615]
I have stopped the prompt of a miss, in battle, to be printed to the screen;
on David's suggestion. Let me know if ya like it and if it still works. :-)
89Jul16 10:34 am from The Hitman @The Mall [455-8615]
Scout Parsons;
You my friend have angered me. For this, I challenge you to a duel, to the
death of course. Name where and when, and I shall meet you and kill you. It
would not be a fair fight between you and the King, but you and me is fair. I
will fight for the King. I am fighting for a cause, making me that much
stronger
Mandorallen: Please excuse this little aunt, I shall take care of him fot you
my lord, should you wish it, as well as his friends.
89Jul16 11:41 am from Tobor @The Mall [455-8615]
Sentinel: What makes you think you are an exception? Walk into Stonefist some
day without permission and let me know you are there and see if you walk out.
Only King Mandorallen has the right to enter without first getting permission.
You will hardly ever be denied permission but you still must ask or your life
is put in jeopardy. I am not a bluff. If I threathen to kill, I will Kill. Of
the 3 people that entered my Castle, 2 of them have been reported dead since
yesterday. Only New User that we aren't sure about. Claims to be some sort of
holy man.
89Jul16 1:08 pm from Gilbert Richard @The Mall [455-8615]
Now THIS has got a beat all...
WHYare you killing anyone without a weapon?
I REALLY object to all of this killing..
How can anyone get a foothold? It7s ruining the game for a lot of people...
89Jul16 1:22 pm from Durin @The Mall [455-8615]
I think Sentinal was refering to the fact that he has more levels than you or
Fire Elf.
89Jul16 4:39 pm from Dan Johnson @The Mall [455-8615]
I have installed the first stages of the new Binary Data Storage Method. There
are a few error checking prompts that made it through Alpha Tests. This is
when you see the prompt 'Binary Value is '. The first one will be checking
the value of the terrain type field and the second whether gate open/closed.
As Gates are not dealt with in any greater detail, at the moment, this should
display '0' right now. This will end the contract of any Game Owners for free
upgrades and Version 1.60 will be the highest version that they may recieve,
not subject to any upgrading charge. Version 1.60 will still be offered for a
limited time at $20.00 to registered players.
89Jul16 5:15 pm from Dan Johnson @The Mall [455-8615]
Things are moveing along smoothly with the Binary Data Storage installation.
The gate is being checked for a value, yet no action is taken as yet, for the
Option to Order Opening/Closing of the gates is not installed. There will be
one more field read from this Byte and that is the Investment Points the
Town/Castle has. These will be calculated from lost revenue in the Temples.
Perhaps having it so that no one can have thier _own_ loyalty and heal free.
Such a scenario would put that money into Investment Points. They shall act
much as experience points do to characters. It will give Towns/Castles a
level. This level will be used to weight such functions as Menial Work
Pay/Day, Weapon and Armour Costs, Cost and speed of healing, etc.. It will
also distiguish the habitated hex from a enclosed farm to a 36' Stone Walled
Castle with Iron Gates. Once all this is patched in a working well, the detail
should really start to flow.
89Jul17 from Duke Samwise @The Mall [455-8615]
The reason I object to people not carrying weapons is because you are given a
weapon when entering the game. these people give their weapon away for several
malicious reasons. If you want to get started in the game, pledge alligence to
teh King and he'll help you. Otherwise you may not live long.
89Jul17 1:48 pm from JASON FOSTER @The Mall [455-8615]
Tobor or Samwise: I never claimed to kill him did I? No I said he was taken
care of. If you killed him fine I could care less. He was not where I saw
him last nor anywhere close to that position than your or someone's messages
confirmed my hunches of his death.
Mandorallen: IS Tobor your eyes and ears? I would like to chat with you
personally ( In mail ) for I have no need to go through Tobor to gain Lordship
if Elligable.
89Jul17 2:19 pm from Glen Fitzgerald @The Mall [455-8615]
Who killed Grim Reaper? If you are a man you will face up to it....
The dead one.
89Jul17 7:36 pm from Dan Johnson @The Mall [455-8615]
The gates now are flaggable (Open/Closed) in the Market Menu, while in the
Town/Castle Hexes Core. The next stage will be to have the movement routines
act apon this flag. Soon inhabitated hexes will have a means of defense.
89Jul17 9:36 pm from Dan Johnson @The Mall [455-8615]
The Gates seem to be openable and closable in Castles now. It is done in the
core of the hex, while in the Market Menu. I would suggest that all Lords with
unkept Castles hurry along home. This is the crudest version of the Gates and
will change to allow more flexibility. Therfore any gates that are encountered
are subject to change. Eventually no gate shall be unpassable, so don't panic
if someone temporarily locks you out. This brings us to version 1.61.
89Jul17 9:55 pm from Dan Johnson @The Mall [455-8615]
There are 26 characters on the board as of this date.
The gates have the added feature of locking those in the Castle as well as
outside, so this should be able to act as a prison with a big enough guard on
the core.
89Jul17 11:50 pm from Dan Johnson @The Mall [455-8615]
It appears that a character can still exit a Castle when the Gates are closed,
although there is warning that they are in closed mode. This makes a lot of
sense in reality and game convieniance yet dangerous if you forget your
keys...
89Jul18 12:53 am from Jason Ingraham @The Mall [455-8615]
Anyone happen to see a character named DALEK II around? He was one of mine,
but appeares to have dissapeared. later....
89Jul18 9:35 am from Shaun Dares @The Mall [455-8615]
What do they do if they find him;-)
89Jul18 11:34 am from Jason Ingraham @The Mall [455-8615]
I just want to know what happened to my former character. One day he was
there, the next he wasn't. I beleave i lost him due to a slight hitch I didn't
know about in changing passwords. later...
89Jul18 1:20 pm from The Guild Master @The Mall [455-8615]
Once again the guild is looking for a few elite members. We are becoming more
of a mercanary Guild and I have jobs for those interested in taking part in
them. All jobs are profitable.
89Jul18 4:07 pm from Dan Johnson @The Mall [455-8615]
An interesting sidenote is that there are over 40 registered names and
passwords of character, yet only about 25 on the board.
89Jul13 3:23 pm from Darren Boucher @STonefiST
Gee, there is only three of us using this room at STonefiST. .ri to see James.
:-)
89Jul18 from Michael J. Boucher @The Mall [455-8615]
I think someone has moved my characters to where they could be found, I hid
them well before I left, and they all appear dead now....I wonder who that
could have been...??
89Jul18 8:49 pm from Enduval @The Mall [455-8615]
Anyone want to take credit for the death of my character's....I am not
positive of the cause of my death yet....but if someone wants to take credit,
it will solve my confusion....
89Jul18 10:00 pm from James Hilchie @STonefiST
Well one of the names needs to be validated..... I seem to forget who, but I
know its in there some where.
89Jul19 3:34 am from Mandorallen @The Mall [455-8615]
I have created the petty noble.
Of the Knights of Kell. Knighted is one Sir The Hitman.
This indicates, that this is a character of some value, as deamed by myself.
89Jul19 from Dalisari @The Mall [455-8615]
Lords of the land:
A evil force has banished the wizard Enduval from the land and taken
control of Castle Silverthorn....The gates are locked and he refuses to come

PLease do not choose the Archetect Offrice (option 4 of Market Menu) for the
moment.
89Jul19 2:20 pm from Thor @The Mall [455-8615]
Okay doky
89Jul19 2:40 pm from JASON FOSTER @The Mall [455-8615]
Okay I as with Enduval have apeared to lose ALL my characters in the run of
the day. Someone likes water hexes I can see. Someone mine claiming this
responibility or was it some bug Dan?
89Jul19 2:45 pm from Dan Johnson @The Mall [455-8615]
No bug I don't think. I witnessed one of Enduval's men die.
89Jul19 5:18 pm from Ian Smith @The Mall [455-8615]
Where is castle Silverthorn?
89Jul19 6:53 pm from Dan Johnson @The Mall [455-8615]

Enduval:
All of your characters are marked as having been killed, in case you are
still wondering about thier dissapearence. Appears someone or group has
launched an all out attack against your characters. I wonder who that could
be...
89Jul20 3:41 am from Enduval @The Mall [455-8615]

the events leading to the death of these villians....
89Jul20 5:09 am from Shaun Dares @The Mall [455-8615]
This is cute. I got an I/O error 10, PC=46B8...What does this mean in
English? The program (door) aborts after it askes you to press return.
89Jul20 5:11 am from Shaun Dares @The Mall [455-8615]
Now, I just get a warning that the Utility program is going to run. Is there
a connection?? (looking helpless;-)

89Jul20 7:29 pm from Kent Murray @The Mall [455-8615]
Dan I'm back and finding things have gone from bad to worse because now I seem
to be experiencing the same problem that someone else has been complaining
about (I/O ERROR 10 PC=46B8). So now I cannot even find out if my charaters
have decided to play fair and stay where I put them. I'm open to any
suggestions you might have...
89Jul20 11:55 pm from Dan Johnson @The Mall [455-8615]
Do to a scrambling of the files I had to go to backups from early thismorning.
I hope this is not oo much of an inconvieniance to players.
89Jul21 10:34 am from Dougal @The Mall [455-8615]
I am in Castle 819 with the gates locked, I demand to be recognized as a Lord
for I have single handedly killed Sentinel in battle, it is obvious he was
only wearing plate mail because I, a (at that time) a 4th level character
wearing field plate beat him, a supposed 14th level character getting hit only
once. I am a follower of Tobor but he was very impressed with my fighting and
said he would let me go if Mandorallen recognized my lordship. I'd be happy
with this here castle. It's fine....
89Jul21 1:21 pm from Mandorallen @The Mall [455-8615]
All who are locked in castles must tell me why. Un lawful occupation of a
castle will result in a 1000sp bounty placed on the offenders head.
89Jul21 2:19 pm from Zantreal @The Mall [455-8615]
I guard the gates of Kell, as long as I'm around they will stay open-unless
the King orders otherwise!
89Jul21 2:55 pm from Enduval @The Mall [455-8615]
I would love to know who has locked the gates of Silverthorn.....The person
will have a 2000sp bounty on there head when they leave! I am placing henchmen
around the castle as I am writting this, and should he try to leave I will
know his identity......
89Jul21 3:45 pm from Dan Johnson @The Mall [455-8615]
Castles are 32,000sps at the moment
Towns - 15000sps
roads - 2000sps
tracks - 1000sps
This is soon to change quite a bit. I am working on setting up a level field
of populated hexes. Therefore the will be degrees of castle development. That
is a Lord will be able to Invest in his holding a bit at a time and raise it's
level and having an effect on things like NPC population, NPC Guards, Menial
Work Pay, Cost and Speed of Healing, Cost of Weapons and Armour etc. etc..
Characters gain level by adding to thier experience points. Right now that is
only accomplished by defeating an opponent in battle. The funds that he
carries are used to increase the victor's experience points by the same
amount, as well as being added to the victor's purse. In future ther means of
experience raising will be added. Perhaps making things a little less
bloodthirsty.
89Jul21 from Dalisari @The Mall [455-8615]
I will avenge Enduval and also dispose of those who occupy his castle! As for
my services after that....I am loyal to Mandorallen, and would like to journey
back to Durins mountains, where I assisted in clearing out Bardia's men.....I
am available for hire and was a very loyal follower of Enduval. He can attest
to my trustworthyness( at least his shade can). I would like some help in
clearing the villians from Silverthorn first though...(739) so Enduval may be
buried in his home hex....Who ever aids me in this quest will have my thanks
and depending on his level, my services as well...
Dalisari
89Jul21 5:31 pm from Durin @The Mall [455-8615]
Some fool has taken and then locked the doors of my Keep when I was up North.
This person shall die if I cannot enter soon.
89Jul21 6:22 pm from Tobor @The Mall [455-8615]
I now place a bounty of 300 sp to anybody who gives me the location of
Dalisari, the program had to back up and it gave him his life back. One cannot
insult Tobor and get away with it, just ask Sentinel, a supposed 14th level
character. I still don't believe he was past 8th.
89Jul21 6:25 pm from Dougal @The Mall [455-8615]
I've locked the doors only so some fools don't try to kill me. Once I get
Lordship I will feel I am a little more protected. Either I am named a Lord or
I will go on a killing spree and none of your henchmen and followers will be
safe.
89Jul21 6:46 pm from Darren Boucher @The Mall [455-8615]
Sorry I will be withdrawing from TKC. No my characters aren't all dead. Just
that an incident leaves me no choice. No comments.
89Jul21 8:03 pm from Dan Johnson
I have the InvestmentPoint Field being read and recorded now. This is
incremented in option 4 (Archetect's Office) in the Market Menu. Soon I shall
start weighting different options with this field. Thus a habitated area that
has had more invested into it would have better healing facilities thus
quicker yet perhaps more expensive healing. The menial work may pay better yet
weapons are more expensive. That kind of thing. Any suggestions along those
lines would be appreciated.
89Jul21 9:52 pm from James Hilchie
Dan, Direct investment should be restricted to core hex, following the same
reasoning as used with the gossip tree.
How could you have better healing that is more expensive ? Get healed 2 hp's
at a minimume charge of 2 sp's ? Sorry but I don't get that one.
The other ideas all have merit.
I think that 2-5% of purchases should go to investment points.
And healing go to the same loyalty as that of the guy who controles the core
hex.
89Jul21 10:06 pm from Dan Johnson
Better Healing May work that you are charged more per HP but it happens
quicker.
I think the tax of each town/castle will be weighted by the actual investment.
I.E. a population in a clean city with running water, wouldn't mind being
taxed more than some clay and straw fort with thatched huts. So the more
invested the greater the return as happens in a normal business venture. (In
theory anyway)
89Jul21 10:36 pm from Dan Johnson
The Investment Option now is restricted to the Core Section of Castle/Town
Hexes.
89Jul21 from Dalisari
I fail to see where I isulted anyone, as all can see, I am mearly trying to
help my liege regain what is rightfully his....I will turn Silverthorn over to
Mandorallen upon it's capture, and go on my way....As for the bounty placed on
my head.....I am sure that any noble man will not be swayed by this
king-killing villan Tobor. I hope to gain access to the Dwarven mountains from
Lord Durin, and return to the sight of my first campaign, against the
notorious Bardia....
I plead to Mandorallen for justice, and that he ask Tobor to
recide this bounty....
89Jul21 11:49 pm from Dan Johnson
In preparation of having Castle/Town Hexes with levels, I have
adjusted the market menu to display different options depending
how many Investment Points the Castle/Town has. For now the
complete menu will work, although soon the displayed choices
wil be the only ones available. The Investment Points can only
be spent while in the Core of The Town/Castle Hex. If a
negative number is given then that amount of Silver will be
transfered to the character, having a negative amount on the
Investment Points. Thus it can operate as a bank.
Castle/Towns with 1..100 Investment Points:
0: Open/Close Gate ')
1: Meanial Work');
2: Gossip Tree');
3: Visit Cleric Temple');
Castle/Towns with 1..200 Investment Points:
4: Buy Slave');
5: Hire Henchmen');
Castle/Towns with 1..300 Investment Points:
6: Buy A Weapon');
7: Buy Armour');
Castle/Towns with 1..400 Investment Points:
8: Archetect Office');
9: Return Main Menu');
The range is 1..512 total so there is room for expansion, and
as always room for discussion on this setup.
Many options on the menu will soon be weighted using the Investment Points
Level. Menial Work Pay etc., as mentioned before. There will be a skim off for
the Investment Points to build up through normal business. Perhaps instead of
the pay off directly to the Lord, it will go to the 'Bank' of the Town/Castle.
89Jul22 from Dalisari
It has become apparent that the lords willhave to either lock thier
doors....or appoint guards of sufficient level to guard thier castles against
seige....Almost every major castle is now under siege by some villan. I will
be returning to 739 to stand guard against the day when the person inside
leaves and the castle can be regained....
89Jul22 12:34 pm from Dan Johnson
Indeed Dalisari! This stage of test play will make henchmen a nessesity. You
see as well as investing in the Castle/Town you can draw funds from the
investment as well. This would have the effect of reducing the Market Menu
Options as the InvestPoints decreased. This can only be accessed from the Core
of the Hex, so good guards would be required to hang on to the Castle/Town
treasury.
This brings us to another point, what should be the big difference between a
Town and a Castle?
89Jul22 12:59 pm from Glen Fitzgerald
Castles should be lockable...towns shouldn't......how easy is it to lock
people out of a town????You would have to build a barricade around the
thing...a castle can just have it's drawbridge lifted......
89Jul22 1:35 pm from Dan Johnson
That's a good distinction.
89Jul22 5:43 pm from Mandorallen
Town should only get the lock doors option at the 300 levels.
Castles start at 1. Large old cities did have walls. smaller ones didnot.
89Jul22 9:36 pm from Gilbert Richard
How about for the Investment Points idea, instead of basing it on how much
money the lord puts into their establishment, base it on the number of
Civilians it contains... The residents need not affect the players directly,
but perhaps the Lord could use money to attract people to his/her town, and
how many come could depend on how much is spent on PR, the location of the
town(is it a port?Is it in the middle of the mountains? Have a Geographic
rating system somehow), etc...
And for castles, money could play a more vital role, as money can be spent on
more fortifications, more armaments, bigger army, whereas a town would spend
it on more housing and more shops...
How does that sound?
89Jul22 10:21 pm from Dan Johnson
I like those ideas Gilbert, yet it will happen gradually in that direction I
think. In the not too distant future though there will be a NPC population ,
whose number is weighted on the InvestPoints. Even sooner the function:
TRUNC(InvestPoints*.01)* +
This will be used to wieght Menial Pay, Day Charge for Healing, Cost of
Weapons and Armor, and Slave Purchase. As it will take such vast sums to build
up the Castle/Towns (and as there are a few already top level through testing)
I think this makes sense even considering the vast differences in payment on
options. A Castle that may be the only one at present to have Weapon and Armor
Markets would be a natural semi-capital. Thus jobs would pay much better there
and no doubt be of much more value. It would be a priveledge to be able to
burn off days in such a place that would pay 50% more in minimum wage. There
would be the natural drawback that healing would cost more (yet perhaps in
future supply you with a larger number of maximum hit points per level, using
much the same function) as would henchmen using much the same function.
89Jul22 10:50 pm from Dan Johnson
You will find the Market Menu Options to be, now, what you see is what you
get. There have been a few high level Castles created during tests, so it will
take some time before the Lords involved set up a system of selling thier
services. Until then Invest In The Future!
89Jul23 2:33 am from Gilbert Richard
Hey, here's an idea for all of you money-hungry Lords out there...
Why not find a rich player and make him a partner in the funding of your
Catsle town? In exchange for his contributions to the town, give him a cut in
the profits... He'll be happy, you'll be happy, we'll be happy... So don't
worry...
89Jul23 6:48 am from Dan Johnson
I have weighted the Menial Work Payment. The Function is:
WEIGHT:=(TRUNC(InvestPoints * 0.01) * VALUE)
In a Castle Town with 300 InvestPoints, this means that Menial Work pays 90sp
per day. Just realized I may have to check so as to avoid problems with
InvestPoints=0.

All appears to be functioning well with the Menial Work Payment Weighting.

89Jul23 11:57 am from Dan Johnson
I'm thinking of adding a function of the character's level in the Weight
Function. I know the Higher Leveled Characters will not object. I have always
had a problem with would be Kings and mighty Warriors peeling potatoes and
stacking cabbages. This way the Level will denote a different pay scale, which
may eventually have corrosponding prompts. Like "Got Job as bodyguard to a
Trader", "Stacked Cabbage all day.", etc, depending on the Function's result.

Due to some recent assination attempts, Haven (917) is no longer an open and
free Castle. You must announce yourself before entering the castle (here, or
in Mail) and I will check you out, and give passage. You only need to do this
once. All others who disobey will be killed on the spot.

89Jul24 8:59 am from Dan Johnson
Mike Boucher had suggested a password for Castle/Town Gates. The whole
exercise of the changes is to get more detail out of the same memory space
presently in use. A password would mean a new field of it's own. I have an
idea for a type of password checking however. How about when a character
approaches a closed Town/Castle hex a check is made to any character that is
in the core of that hex. It could compare the loyalty of that character to the
name of the character approaching the Town/Castle Hex. Thus if a Lord was
expecting someone he could change the Loyalty of the gate keeper and the
character would gain entrance. Characters can exit when the gate is closed so
there would be no problem there. This would be a one character only kind of
password, yet changable. If it would be of any help let me know and I'll have
a look at changing the code to accomadate it.
This system would be particularily handy for a Lord that controlled more than
one Castle/Town. His Gate Keepers could save days even though h was coming and
going.
89Jul24 from Dalisari
Dan:
That would work well if the Char door was working so you could change
passwords once inside.....Then if you heal you could be in the right
loyalty....in that case it would work as a pssword. then when inside they
could both put thier pass words back to normal....
89Jul24 from Michael J. Boucher
I think that t all towns; regardless of thier size should have healing
facilities.....all that is required to heal is a single cleric in a chapel.
Thier are bigger chapels in bigger centers but that is because of a larger
population....even farmers need a cleric and a chapel to worship in.....And
church leaders rarely pass up the oportunity to get some extra revenue....
What you have done, is restricted healing to those with access to healing
centers....which can be locked....the church would not long put up with this
abuse of thier services, not to mention the drain on thier funds it would
cause!

My Dear King Mandorallen....I was wondering if I might get your permission to
build up a town of my own....Travelling without any safe place to go is
getting to dangerous as I grow old....I'm not as strong as the Lords or you

lines of a town in your land......more info will be sent in mail...
89Jul24 2:09 pm from Dan Johnson
The CHAR Door will go up once all the routines for Binary Management is
running smooth.
89Jul24 2:18 pm from Dan Johnson
Perhaps I should either return to the Fitness Unit for a name or introduce
Cleric Types. I have read up on them a bit and they would be easy in the fact
that they can only use a dagger and wear no armour. Thus a major distiction
would be no access to the Weapon and Armour Markets. There spells could be
limited to the type as well. Having Healing and some others of the not so
magical line.
The idea behind limiting the Cleric Temples was that I viewed them as more of
a Medical Facility. With a cost of overhead and thus found in slightly higher
leveled Habitated Hexes. The level is only after 100 InvestPoints, I believe,
to have them appear on the menu. When auto-healing is installed in the Utility
Program one could heal by resting as well. Thisshould not be too long before
installation. Just a matter of getting back to the Utiltiy Program.
89Jul24 5:13 pm from Glen Fitzgerald
Why is the Capital(973) dead???That shoud be the biggest castle of them
all.......yet it has nothing.....Is there a new Capital now?
89Jul24 5:43 pm from Dan Johnson
It so happened that my NPC that I was testing with in Alpha Test, had access
to a hex other than the Capital. If this were the beginning of TKC I would let
things slowly develope, yet there is too much history behind us for that.
Therefore I propose that I supply enough capital to the King to upgrade every
Castle hex to show Cleric Temples. He could then allocate that amount of
funds. This would give the King a chance to consolidate his power base. There
is another player(s) on the board that has access to a 300 InvestPoint Castle.
Just leaving everything as it is will surely upset the Throne, or could do...
therefore I'd like to throw the thought around before making a final
decision.
To have Cleric Temples appear, at the moment, takes about 15,000sps
investment. I was wondering about another point as well. With all that silver
in the game one could gain immediate 14th level buy buying a henchman and
loading the treasury in him and then kiling him. This could be a garrentee to
be able to have the highest level character to protect that amount. Another
thing I thought that I could do was have the first bit as a boolean flag
whether the gold one is carrying goes towards Experience Points or not. If you
draw from the Treasury then all monies in the character's purse would not be a
boost to the level of an opponent. Feedback on these and any other thoughts
during this phase of development would and is appreciated.
89Jul24 9:28 pm from Glen Fitzgerald
I think you should just upgrade the Capital and a few other castles and towns
then let the rest of the land develop....we have poverty in parts of the world
today where they have no doctors, etc(unleess they are brought in) so why not
have it that way in the game?
89Jul26 8:30 am from Dan Johnson
I tend to agree Glen. When I first started out on TKC, I intended to make the
Trolls the economy support. They were going to be able to be summoned by the
King to deliver Gold from the mountains to anywhere on the board for him at
certain times. As things developed the economy is in the hands of the players.
I thought this would act as a wandering monster of sorts (a gold train of
Trolls). So let's try that out in play tests. Troll Castle (hex 96) happened
to be the Castle that was upgraded to highest level. The Troll King Durin may
distribute the 30,000sps throughout the board (hopefully on King Mandorallen's
choice) and I will top up Troll Castle Treasury with another 30,000 when it is
emptied this once. We can take it from there, yet the theme of the Troll's
Treasury filling up automatically when it hits zero kind of intrigues me.
89Jul26 8:39 am from Dan Johnson
There is a new installation. If the gates to a Town/Castle (and Town Gates now
work) are closed, yet with a character on the hex core; then when that hex is
approached a check is made to the loyalty field of the character on the core
to see if that loyalty is the same as the name of the character approaching
the hex. Thus if you were expecting a visitor to your Town/Castle you could
set the gate keeper's loyalty to his/her name and he/she will be welcomed
through the gates. Otherwise any character will be barred entrance. This is
the closest to a password that I could come up with without adding an actual
extra field to carry it.
89Jul26 9:46 am from Shaun Dares
Dan;
When we are mving in a certain direction, can you fix it dso we don't have to
keep going to the hex core etc, and putting in the same direction all the
time? 0 should be going in the same direction till we want to change.
89Jul26 10:00 am from Dan Johnson
The auto-mover is more what you may have in mind. It automatically moves you
through the sections of the hexes that the character passes.
89Jul26 from Dalisari
Also, if you are going to make gates accessable via loyalties, you will
certainly have to allow people to change loyalties in a populated hex....For
healing purposes so the rightfull owner gets the funds.....
89Jul26 from Michael J. Boucher
Dan:
Your stats on the cleric are false, he CAN wear any armor, and use any
weapon that is not edged .ie sword, axe....He can use a mace or war hammer
though....HE is a very formidable fighting man, more so if he worships a war
god(they have been known to allow the use of edged weapons by thier
clerics)....I still say that a healing facility is necessary in all towns and
castles....More so than an archetecs office....Clerics are always wandering
the countryside and you can always find at least one in EVERY town....taking
away this common truth, will kill the game....people are not able to heal and
soon there are no testors.....I am certainly not letting my character go any
farther until he has a a place to heal after his battles! If this means
creating clerics, great, but I will creat my own and my first character will
move when my cleric is off sufficient level to heal him properly and in a safe
location.....
89Jul26 4:08 pm from Dan Johnson
You misunderstood Mike. The check to get in locked gates is like this:
The Loyalty of THE GATE KEEPER is checked against the NAME of the approaching
Character. The approaching character's loyalty is not checked and could be
anything. If the rest of the hex sections were covered with Loyal
Characters/Henchmen in mode 2 then the new visitor would be forced toi change
his loyalty.
89Jul26 4:18 pm from Dan Johnson
Looking back over the Manuals I can't find the spot where I made those notes
Mike. Maybe someone was playing an Phantasmal Force on me. At any rate I still
think I could install them with the Binary Data Storage Routines breaking down
the left hand weapon and Belt Weapon field into sub-fields for spells.
Especially with thier ability to summon spells and not study them. I thought
thier introduction would make even more sense to have the three
characters/player. Sort of forming a party. One choice would naturally be the
Cleric for wise players.
89Jul26 4:32 pm from Dan Johnson
Spells I am Considering are:
1st Level
1.Cure Light Wounds
2.Light (In Battle)
3.Protection from Evil (Again in Battle Scenario)
4.Purify Food/Water (Only useful once Rations introduced)
5.Resist Cold (Perhaps if/when weather introduced)
2nd Level
1.Know Alignment - Thought this could reveil things like level.
2.Hold Person - Again for Battle.
3rd Level
1.Continual Light - Battle purposes
2.Cure Desease (If health ever gets installed)
4th Level
1.Create Water - Good when Rations installed.
2.Cure Serious Wounds
3.Stick to Snake - In Battle Scenerio
5th Level
1.Commune - There are routines like Occupied Hex Listing that is
on hidden menus, that may appear for this spell.
2.Create Food - Good once rations introduced.
3.Insect Plague - Thought to automatically create a character called 'Insect
Plague'. This character would be deleted on th next Utility Run, yet until
then could be controlled by the Cleric who had summoned it.
4.Raise Dead - As long as the Alias Account had not scrolled and the
Registration Door File still has the record this spell could be preformed. It
woudl be just a matter of having the routine that changes that flag (dead) in
the record, available to the Cleric.
89Jul26 4:36 pm from Dan Johnson
Alignment:
The Clerics bring the need for Alignments. Checks could be made when a Cleric
is doing a reverse spell and if his/her hit points are at a critical level it
is ok, otherwise the Alignment would move that little bit more towards Evil.
There would be all kinds of fine points that could be added, should this field
be introduced. This installment would happen gradually as well. The Healing
Spells taking priority.
89Jul26 7:11 pm from Dan Johnson
For the time being Cleric Temples will appear in Town/Castle Hexes after
1000sp investment. Hope that is a good comprimise for now and will plug the
dam before Clerics are introduced.
89Jul26 7:24 pm from Dan Johnson
If I weighted InvestPoints to Town Folk Population and then had a automatic
tax system, one could get a return on money invested (along with having more
market options) and thus be more incentive. What kind of populations do you
players envision towns and castles in TKC to have. Like a range in relation to
1..300 InvestPoints?
89Jul26 11:39 pm from Shane Leahy
A few things, why would reversing healing spells be considered evil, if you
are a cleric of say Tyr(god of war but is good) he wouldn't care how you
destoryed evil as long as you did. What you could do is that you can reverse
healing spells on those of different alignments but not on those of the same
alignment. For churches there should be one in every town but ones that have
a lower IP might cost more. The logic being the town isn't as rich or has a
small population so the church has to charge more to make up the difference.
For population of a town it could be IP because most Feudal Barons bought
serfs to work the land and richer towns would attract more people offering
more services so 1 IP might represent 5 people.
More on the churches it should also be possible for a high level cleric like
9th or so to set up a church so he gets a share of the money from healing, the
tithe (10%). This would have the effect of the baron having to be nice to the
High Priest if he wants his soldiers healed. Mages should also be added with
spells that do damage, protect themselves and all that.
89Jul27 8:16 am from Warlord
Who killed me when I was in hex 965?
89Jul27 8:38 am from Dan Johnson
Perhaps once Clerics are introduced the Cleric Temple option could be changed
to something like 'Visit Cleric'. A check could then be made if there is a
Cleric in the Town on the same section and if so then the healing routines
would appear and the money split between the Lord and the Cleric. I was
thinking of allowing them to build Towers after 9th level and they get 1-6
understudys in the rules I have been reading. This could be a free ride
through Buy Slave Routines six times.
I like the idea of population function and reversed spells according to
allignment. So a very large Town/Castle would be about 1500 population right?
89Jul27 8:39 am from Dan Johnson
Keep in mind that healing by resting will be installed in the Utility Program

89Jul27 1:19 pm from Dan Johnson
OK it is the Magic User that has the dagger restriction. I have made Cleric
Temples available to all Towns and Castles. At present the complete menu will
appear after 20,000sps invested. If I group Slave Buying and Henchmen Hiring
in a sub-menu that will leave two more positions in the market place. These
can be two things that a 300 InvestPoint Castle/Town would have and others
wouldn't. Any ideas? Perhaps it could be involved in a Horse and Wagon Market?

In the sense that Elf's are a race in AD&D and M.U. and a Cleric is a class.
And Elf may be either a single or multi class person. Ie An Elf could be a

The movement point bug appears to be fixed. There is an interesting feature of
the Closed Gate Routines that I thought I'd bring to the player's attention.
If an encounter is made in the section of the hex that the online player is
trying to move to, then the check for the gate is overlooked. This could be
good for a strong henchman there in mode 2 to ensure when the characters enter
that the loyalty is correct. It could lead to some interesting stratigy as
well. Sort of like having spies in the castle that open the gates. I will wait
for feedback before making any changes to that feature. So only when the
character(s) inside the Town/Castle are on the core, with all other sections
empty is the Castle Gate impregnable.
89Jul29 2:23 pm from Sargent Mastodon
Mandorallen: If Grim Reaper is the Mayor of 523 ( or whatever ) why then does
he hold up in town 723 with loyalty to himself. You may have a trader in your

I am in the process of installing the new registration system. You can look it
over in the REG Door. Until a few minor changes are made, newly registered
chaaracters cannot be created. Created characters are retrieved no problem.
This shall be the next fix. With the new system the Real User and Alias
Account Records are in seperate files. One obvious difference this creates is
no more need to enter your address, tel. num., etc. more than once. In future
more info can be asked about the user to know if he/she can handle such things
as WINDOWS.

I have added a fourth option to the Movement Menu. Just as you may choose to
see the hex numbers of the surrounding hexes, you may now see the population
of the surrounding hexes as well. This is particularily useful for peeking
into Castle/Towns with the gates locked. I am coding it to use for Seige
Routines. I want to be able to check if a Town/Castle is surrounded before
flagging a Seige. If players like this feature it shall remain. If it is found
to be an unwanted addition, it can be removed. Silence shall be taken to mean
it should stay.

89Jul30 9:41 am from Dan Johnson
I thought it would be good to begin to tackle the time sync. Here are some
ideas I have come up with so far. The DAY Field is at present an integer or 16
bits. If we made an era 1024 Days, this could be expressed in 9 bits. The
remaining 6 (the seventh being the sign bit) could be used as boolean toggles
that could be turned on and off from a menu, that tell how to manage time when
not logged on. For example say a character encountered your character and was
ahead of your character, in time, by 3 days. Say that same character tried to
transfer your character silver. The tenth bit could be 0 if you do not want
your character's time moved and 1 if you do for Credit Transfers. There would
be enough bits to cover all the options in the Encounter Menu. When an
encounter was made the day of the encountered character would be displayed
with his Loyalty. If the online player's character was behind in time then he
would have to burn off time in order to get the time synced so that the
encounter menu would appear. Any other Toggle Flag ideas would be
appreaciated.
89Jul30 11:14 am from Grim Reaper

I thought that it would not be realistic to be able to see the population in
Forest and Mountain Hexes. So 'WOOD' and 'MTNS' are written instead of a
population for those two Terrain Types. The print to the screen still need a
bit of work to form a perfect Hex Cluster, yet the info is correct.
89Jul30 12:27 pm from Dan Johnson
OK instead of printing 'WOOD' or 'MTNS' to screen, either of those terrain
types will cause a 'H' (standing for Hidden) to be printed instead of the
population.

with the same loyalty killing one another, I am offering a clear opposition
for those who seek it....

towns 698 728, 723 are all locked and empty. I think towns should not lock
until they have weapons stores. I also think that a level check and damage
score should be added. If the aproaching person is of higher level than the
persom inside then the aproaching char should be allowed to try to break the
doors, or at least try. The doors have 1-10 damage points, corisponding in
part to the towns level, the attacker gets one hit. if he beats the score the
doors are then opened.
this would stop the need to unlock empty towns with closed gates.

I was planning to install seiging of Castle/Towns. Now that the surrounding
population of adjacent hexes is being preformed by the program, I will install
these routines in the Utility Program and it will check if surrounded by
non-loyal characters. If so this will effect th treaury until that is empty
then hit points of characters inside will begin to be effected until empty and
then the gates are opened. The healing will not work in the Castle/Town as
long as the seige flag is on. In D&D characters are allowed to try to open
locked doors and gates but after one un-successful try may never try again. I
would thus have to carry markers of what gates each character has tried to
open. This is something contrary to the storage space ideas that I am working
around. Thus a siege fits into the workings, I feel, much better.
