Boy am I dissapointed! I backed up all 19 Megs of stuff, re-formatted the Hard
Disk. Loaded everything back in and set it up only to find that the exact same
problem exists with TKC Door as before all of that. I tried a file that went
out with a copy I sold, thinking that maybe for some reason it was the size of
the character file at present. It also worked without the system being up, yet
crashed right out of the door the same as the regular file.


The only positive thing to come out of all that work, is that I can now boot
from the Hard Disk. This should help me a lot when working on TKC, which seems
rather redundant with present difficulties.

The next step is to set up PRCHOST, the ProComm Mini BBS to see if it runs in
that shell. If it does it should indicate that the Citadel System Files may be
the culprits.

TKC BACK ON TREMBLING KNEES!!!!


Well I still can't figure out what is C86DOOR.EXE's problem. To do a temporary
fix I used the same ERRORLEVEL that it signals to start up a Batch File that
sends you to DOORWAY and then TKC. This is straight Modem I/O right now, so
may not be a s smooth as with C86DOOR. PLease let me know how it handles fro
you all.

I have had both the Monnett Twins and Sir Maverick in for testing and the
method seems sound enough (using the batch file). I shall now clean the few
obvious bugs and infinite loops out of the present Alpha Test and have it back
up again very soon. All three test players found the inter-hex addition easy
to handle once around the hex once or twice, which was very encouraging for
me.

TKC Version 1.55 Online!!!

I have not tested it to my complete satisfaction, so no crying if a bug should
turn against you. (I never get complaints when they work in the players favour
:-) Please report any oddities and what you think of Inter-Hex Movement. I
shall add that to the help files asap (found in .H KINGDOM). Right now there
are no costs to inter-hex movement as to Movement Points. There are also no
encounters in that option. They will be the next two installments to be added,
yet I would like to test this much fully and get players' feedback.
The version numbering will be changed once it is debugged.

Three changes will be implimented after last nights testing.

1)Water shall take -49 Hit Points and -10 MOvement Points each water hex moved
over. This will allow strong warriors to swim two hexes (back to shore). May
all the galliant testers who drowned rest in peace.

2)Newly Created characters shall be assigned a section of hex, randomly.
Because they hadn't been, they cannot move at present when created in this
version.

3) Inter-Hex Menu shall stay in a loop, until player chooses an exit option.
This should speed Movement to proper position.

The Troll King is Dead!

A group of fishermen on the northern coast found the mighty remains of the
Troll King washed up on the shore. Having only heard of Trolls in myth, they
built a huge funeral pyre and burnt the remains. May he rest in peace.

Water now takes -33 Hit Points for every hex crossed and -10 Movement Points,
so it is possible to swim back to shore.


Newly created Characters now have a roll to see what hex section they are
placed into.


I will wait for more feedback before changing the Inter-Hex Menu.

Something has to done with users going into the TKC door more than once per
day. I refuse to make the program citadel specific, so here isone idea I came
up with. Add a feature into the Utility Program (which is Cit specific, yet
stands alone) that checks the system Door Log each time it runs. Any offenders
get a certain amount of Hit Points deducted from thier character. This would
entail that another option for henchmen is added, so that a player can access
his henchmen while still in the same session. Feedback?

More than one character??? Those would _be_ henchmen, or certainly should
be... or do you mean poeple with characters that they use with other's
passwords? If that type of thing is going on, then they would have to log in
as the legal user I suppose, or suffer the penalty. All the extra characters
of past versions have been killed off and some have remained and surfaced as
henchmen when the Utility Program was introduced.

Well Duke Samwise just got back from a long overdue scouting... A good friend
of Samwise named Meriadoc was attacked by Jargon III a coupld of days ago.
Today Meriadoc entered Castle Stonefist and reported the event to teh Duke.
Needless to say he was not impressed. The Duke left, heading half way across
the world to pay this Jargon III back. When he finally arrived there he found
that he wasn't even a challenge. Please if you are going to bug my subjects at
least be able to put up a fight because you're going to have to deal with me.
A few people insisted on getting in the way and they were offed at the same
time.

I'd like to take this moment to challenge Halbroth to a duel. I didn't like
what you said about me before. Want to settle it.

I got booted out of the door today with error f3, which is the "too many files
open" error. This will be looked into, yet as it is a rare occurance, not with
top priority. I think it is due to multiple sessions on the player's part.
When I installed that feature I did not check against this happening, as it
did not occure to me.

Inter-hex move is a b*tch. There should be a choice whether you want
inter-hex move or the move that was orginally used. Also move by hex number
was good but it should go as you input the hexes you want to move by, for
example you are in 115 and want to get to 220. You type in 168 & 220. This
elimates alot of trouble if you want to get to a castle or town.
I think, and I stress think, that a aloyal follower of Troll King was killed
by Samwise. If Samwise would tell me by which way he moved this could be
cleared up.

I tried changing the name of the Room back to KINGDOM without success. Version
1.55, with Inter-Hex MOvement is up for testing at The Mall. Hurry before you
enemies figure out how to use it, as you have to position your castle guards
now. Interaction will only happen if someone is in the section of the hex you
are moveing to from an adjacent hex. Cost for Inter-Hex Moves and Encounters
during same has not been installed. I will wait until this step has been
totally debugged and I get feedback as to changes/additions/deletions.

I have that in mind. Once a central or core section of the hex is installed,
then the program could easily walk you through in a straight line, stopping
only if an encounter is made. Inter-Hex movement would still be possible on
request, so that is what is being tested now; those routines. As the central
core will be able to access all sections it's routine will be totally
different than any of the others. All the others will simply have the central
core added as a choice. It seemed like a logical place to stop and check to
me.

ago, when Fire Elf so cowardly attacked him, he did not die, but instead his
body was hidden away in a far corner of the world by his squire. He was
recently brought back from land of the dead by the gods to somehow prevent a
disaster which the world is quickly moving towards. However, he is but a
shadow of his former glory and might, so if you happe to meet the poor man

I don't like inter-hex movement, it takes far too long. First uou have to
move repeatedly to a spot on the hew just to move to the next hexthen change
hexes and do it all over again.

Core of Hex Section Implimented!!!

I have inplimented the core of hex section for testing. This will help a bit
in the meantime for all those frustrated during testing of Inter-Hex Movement.
This section will soon be the section where ownership of Castles/Towns is
checked. Once it is tested, I will add automovement through hexes. The program
will find it much easier to take the straight line through the Core Section
and out the other side in movement. I hope this stage of implimentation will
make the stages of development clearer to those that have had only complaints
with Inter-Hex Movement. When this feature is fully operational it will
increase the size of the map 6 fold. I would have thought this would be a
welcome addition to players.

I have an announcement to make. I met Edward Cain on the field of battle
today. Not because of idiots calling me coward as a Duke has many things to do
and can't always be bothered, but because Edward was beginning to be a real
bothersome character to me and I thought he deserved the respect of a
one-on-one battle instead of me using an army to depleat him as I could very
easily have done... I met him where he challenged me to battle to the death.
Samwise used to fear battle as a noble ofton does but in the last few days
he's been in battle so often its amazing his armor is still on him... Edward
Cain was way better that anything Samwise had ever faught and Edward started
the battle by hitting Samwise while Samwise struggled to hit him back, as time
wore on both sides tired of running and the hits were scored a little more
often, fortunately Samwise began to take the upper hand, if he didn't do so
when he did he would have lost the battle. It cam down to the last round where
either one of them hitting would have killed the other, fortunately Edward had
challenged Samwise so that Samwise got first swing, it scored and Edward fell.
Samwise then returned to Castle Stonefist and healed himself immediately.
Edward Cain increased Samwise's level by quite a bit... The honorable Edward
Cain is dead...

I take this moment to warn Xanlithe to leave Castle Cain as the Castle is
going to be destroyed, if you do not leave, you will be destroyed with it.
Don't underestimate Samwise's power...

No that scum in Troll King's clothing, you don't have the respect Edward had
with me. You have taken your kingdom in villainy manor. I won't show the same
respect to you. I won't hunt you dowb myself, an army of my men will seek you
out and destroy you someday IF you don't give me the respect I deserve...

This is still not a warring Samwise, I had a problem that interfered with my
quest with peace and I had no choice but to destroy it, I still want the
kingdom to exist in peace (so I don't haev to get through the busy signal as
often :-) and I'd like to ask all warring people around or in Castle Stonefist
(265) to leave the area.

Werid things have been happen... First,I moved from a hex to the one next
door and it jumped two hexes... the core doen't work it doesn't move the
character after the selection is made. The inter-hex movement I think is much
too slow... There should be normal movement also so that it doesn't take 5
minutes to move a couple of hexes.. DARKWALKER.

Sounds like you were moving just after being prompted for "Another Session?".
This bug has been documented in this room already. I have noticed that you
never read the notes before going to the game so you shall probably miss this
one as well. The core _does_ work, with one noted bug. East and West were
mixed. I shall probably have that working right before you log back on.

Again if the messages were read, you would have seen my countless
explainations that this was a three part implimentation. First inter-hex moves
and testing. That is complete. Second Core Hex installation and testing. That
is underway. Third automovement through the hex. That is next on the list of
installation.
If you don't read the notes to get a flow of what is going on, please don't
bother to leave messages. It only confuses the other players. If this
continues much more, this room will be made an invite only room, to those who

Hex core is a lot better but all the sections are mixed up, if you want to go
to the SE you have to go to the NW section of the hex. One more thing, when I

I have begun installing interactions to the inter-hex moves. This also means
that there is at the moment a costly charge to move, as inter-hex is costing
the same as regular hex moves. If you should be bothered by this, then stay

where patience and peace bring nothing but strife and poverty, why would

I am strongly suspecting Commodore (pet ascii) as being the cause of the
freeze ups. I am exploring into that area in more detail. Until I become more
familiar with it, would Commodore users try to pay attention to what keys are

Commerce will be a future installment. I will put in an exchange armour option
in the Encounter Menu that will work like weapon exchange. Then a character
can work out a deal with another character for used Armour. I have been told
that armour is normally tailored and would not as a rule be very transferable,
so I would like to hear feedback from GMs on the subject.

Another Market Mod!!!
I changed the maximum hit point allowance in the Cleric Temple. The average
maximum is 100 HPs for first level characters. 10 extra hit points are then
allowed for every level. This is not smoothed out totally and I think that the
first level allows you 110, taking the 100 and adding Level*10. The test
character was at level 3 and allowed to heal to 140 HPs. This will be checked
over next time in so get in while the getting is good. I feel that this will
give more advantage to higher levels and allow them to survive longer, which
seems fair to me. Please let's hear those objection or alterations now before
I go back in to complete the work on this section of code.

I now have the D&D Rule Books. At last I'm an expert. :-)
One thing that I've been studying up on are the Water Vessels. I was
wondering what players thought of the rowing variety. Some like the Large
Galley require 180 rowers. This would require a lot of NPCs, PCs or imaginary
characters. I was thinking to use only the Sailing Ships and the smaller
rowing Ships, such as Lifeboats/canoes/rafts. A little feedback on this would
be appreciated.

Adjacent Hex Moves Are Working It Seems!!!!
The Adjacent Hex moves are recognising encounters in tests for me now. There
is one detail and that is if battle is not choosen then the moving character
will be moved to the opposite section of his hex from the one he was in before
the encounter. This could logically be explained that the threat of encounter
and his choice not to battle would mean he withdraws or is forced back by the
encountered character. Feedback on this small detail would be appreciated
before I make the fix for it.


Please report any bugs in the whole movement process. Once all looks well, I
am anxious to install ships.

maybe if you did place the large ships you could make it so that movement
depened on how many men you had. Obviously 1 man could not catch a gallion
with 100 men. And maybe when you purcahsed the boat instead of getting all
those NPC or PC you also get "rowers", for a price besides the boat. Just a
thought.

That's what I was thinking about rowers, include them in the price of the
boat, ex. You buy the boat and then the programer asks you how many rowers
you want. About armor, most are can be interchanged by people but all the
plate ones cannot.

Re Ships and Crews:

I was thinking along your idea as well Shane. If that type of scenario is
favorable I could do the same for towns and Castles. Giving a roll for
townsfolk and Castle Folk. The armies could be the actual hit point count of a
character. This would make the map seem much more sensible, also lending to
much more war stratigy as well. Other characters would be needed to lead other
regiments if you will, or henchmen. If this was exceptable I have some ideas
to make sea warring very interesting, with stratigy questions as the battle
rages. For example grapple, send marines, catapults, etc.. This would be a
serious breakaway from what we have been playing so far. It would do away with
the lone wolf character. Every player's character would be a small leader in
his own rank. For example a newly created character would be seen to have 40
followers. I thought of doing this a while back but only after reading about
Sailors, rowers and Marines did I see how easily it could be done. This will
be a big transition as far as the game play goes, so please EVERYONE let's
talk it up and get some feedback on it.

Thinking of fighting as such,an interesting option would be to hire an
army,oor small force like that.If the entire group could move as one,but
occupy about 3 hexes at one time,and fight at the same time,like one
character,it would certainly add to the ability to make war.A rich baron,or
noble could hire around 50 men,and have them march as one body,to avoid
confusion,and wipe out an entire castle,or area,in a brief period of time.

Connell:

The hit points representing the army of men that a character has with him
would be much the same thing. Keep in mind that the hexes represent 15 square
miles. At present it is not realistic for one character to control even 1/7th
of that area, as the sections of hex represent. A new character, having 40 men
under him (and moving with him at all times) would explain this much better.
With the new Hit Point allotments more powerful (in level) characters would
have more of an army with them. Henchmen could also still be hired, yet they
too would have underlings. Thus to control three hexes in a campaign, the
Baron would need a minimum of two henchmen, with thier respective regiment,
plus his own.
In this scenario each player's character would be at minimum a small Lord,
although perhaps a nomadic one with no realm of his own.

To try to put an immediate, yet temporary, fix on the freeeze ups I have
changed the "Press Any Key To Continue..." prompt to "Press Return to
Continue...". This is ASCII Code 26 or ^Z for any not using regular IBM ASCII.
I hope this will be a cure for the moment, without restricting certain users
to the game.

These plans of yours sound as if they would add a great deal of realism,
with little actual change to the game structure. Go for it.


I have just finished talking to the warlock Death Bringer. He has discovered
a way to travel back in time. The limit is the mistic number imposed by the
great God MaxInt.

Warning: The penalty could be great. (Dan I'll keep it secret till I get a
chance to Chat you.)

Mandorallen: Playing with MaxInt could cause all kinds of error. The Abort
Codes could be DOS, I'm not sure... when playing with magic your on your own.

For the army idea maybe instead of making each person in the army diffferent
to have them all together under one character. i mean, say one army went to
attack another army. It would take days just to finsih off one of the armies,
so instead of hit points have men, so when it would usually say so and so does
so much damage it would now read the defending, attacking army lost so
many men. this way you could install it in with hire henchmen routine and run
it basically like that. You could but armies, higher armies, ythat type of
thing but the armies could only attack armies. then the two leaders of both
armies could fight it out at the end as usual. Until one side is victorious.

You half understand what I have in mind. I'll try to clarify it. The hit
points used at present will represent the army of that character. A regiment
would be a better term, as that same character could hire a henchman that
would come with his regiment (which would be his hit point value). The battle
sequence would work just as you explained. Instead of so much damage, it would
be so many men. We could expound on this theme and instead of just having
turns at hit, introduce other choices in the battle sequence such as catapult
fire etc.. This would be at a later stage however. Instead of being lone
warriors the characters (and thus player) would be seen to be as a general
type figure.


This would tie in nicely with what I have in mind for the sea combat. Sea
encounters will have a 1:8 chance of probability. If there is an encounter I
thought that I would pull up a small grid map. This way catapults can be used
within a 150 ft - 300 ft range etc. Then when the two ships grapple a melee
ensues on one or the other ships. Evation could be seen on the grid map as
well.

I shall probably go ahead with the sea combat, but will be sure of consencious
before introducing it to the land. Try to look at the change as an entirely
new player would see it, unprejudgest from past play.

I think it rather interesting being born in the middle of the water..
My mother could at least teach me how to swim!
I think I don7t like about this game is: my past 2 characters have been born
in the middle of the ocean! And they always drown before I can get to shore..

I think I may have newly created characters fixed, in terms of them not being
booted out of the game each time they go to a chained file. There are a few
other things to fix in that regard as well. Let me know how it works on remote

Newly created characters can also be killed and drowned. It seems as though
they function just like a regular character. Again let me know how they act in

I was thinking of making a secondary door for such things Darren. Eventually
this door could be used to set up auto-moves etc.. BTW is Samwise just away
from the Castle or has he been snuffed?
